Service Overview
Complete External Rendering Solutions
External rendering is the application of a protective and decorative coating to the outside walls of a building. Modern rendering systems — particularly silicone-based K-render — provide exceptional weather protection, thermal insulation benefits, and a clean, contemporary appearance that transforms the look of any property.
Rendering is appropriate for properties with exposed brickwork that needs weatherproofing, existing render that has cracked or deteriorated, homes requiring improved thermal performance, or properties where the owner wants to achieve a modern, clean exterior aesthetic. It is one of the most effective ways to improve both the appearance and performance of a building envelope.
Professional rendering requires specialist skills and materials. The substrate must be properly assessed and prepared, the correct system must be specified for the building type and exposure conditions, and the application must be carried out to manufacturer specifications to achieve the stated performance and warranty terms. Amateur rendering invariably fails prematurely.

Why It Matters
The Risks of Deteriorating External Walls
Unprotected or poorly rendered external walls are the primary route for water penetration into a building. Rain is driven against walls by wind pressure, and without an effective barrier, moisture enters the masonry and migrates inwards. This causes internal dampness, mould growth, deterioration of timber components, and damage to internal plaster and decoration.
Existing render that has cracked allows water to penetrate behind the render layer. Once moisture is trapped between the render and the substrate, freeze-thaw cycles cause the render to blow — detaching in sheets and exposing the underlying masonry to accelerated weathering. Patching failed render rarely provides a lasting solution; the system needs to be replaced comprehensively.
Beyond water damage, poorly performing external walls waste energy. Solid brick walls without insulation account for up to 35% of heat loss in an uninsulated home. External wall insulation with a rendered finish addresses both the weather protection and thermal performance deficiencies simultaneously, reducing energy bills and improving comfort.
In-Depth Detail
Rendering Systems We Install
K-Render (Silicone Render)
K-render is a premium, through-coloured silicone render system that provides a self-cleaning, crack-resistant, and breathable finish. Available in a wide range of colours, it does not require painting and maintains its appearance for 25+ years with minimal maintenance. K-render is applied over a base coat and reinforcing mesh, providing a robust, flexible system that resists thermal movement cracking. This is our most recommended system for residential properties.
Monocouche (One-Coat) Render
Monocouche is a single-coat, through-coloured cement-based render that provides a durable, attractive finish. It is faster to apply than multi-coat systems and available in a range of textures from smooth to roughcast. Monocouche is a cost-effective alternative to K-render whilst still providing good weather protection and colour retention.
Traditional Sand & Cement Render
The most established rendering method, using a base coat of sand and cement followed by a finish coat. This system requires painting once cured and repainting every 5–10 years to maintain appearance and weather performance. It is the most economical option and is suitable for properties where regular maintenance is planned.
External Wall Insulation (EWI) Systems
We install complete EWI systems comprising insulation boards (EPS, mineral wool, or phenolic) mechanically fixed to the external wall, covered with reinforcing mesh and base coat, and finished with a through-coloured render top coat. This system dramatically improves thermal performance — typically reducing U-values from 2.0+ to below 0.30 W/m²K — whilst transforming the property's appearance.
Substrate Assessment & Preparation
Every rendering project begins with a thorough assessment of the existing substrate. We test for moisture content, check for structural cracks, remove failing render, repair damaged masonry, and apply appropriate primers and bonding agents. Preparation quality determines render longevity — we never compromise on this phase.
Scaffold & Access Management
All external rendering requires scaffold access. We arrange scaffold erection and dismantling through our trusted scaffolding partners, managing the entire process from council pavement licences through to final scaffold strike. Costs are included in our quotations — no surprises.
Our Proven Process
How We Deliver Results
Survey & System Specification
We inspect the external walls, assess the substrate type and condition, measure the total area, and recommend the most appropriate rendering system for your property, exposure conditions, and budget.
Quotation & Colour Selection
A comprehensive, fixed-price quotation covering scaffold, preparation, materials, labour, and all finishing details. For K-render and monocouche systems, we provide colour sample boards for you to evaluate against your property.
Scaffold Erection & Preparation
Scaffold is erected safely and any necessary pavement licences obtained. Existing failed render is removed, masonry repairs completed, and the substrate is cleaned, treated, and primed ready to receive the new system.
System Application
Base coats, reinforcing mesh, and finish coats are applied in strict accordance with the manufacturer's system specifications. Each coat is allowed to cure properly before the next is applied. Beading is fitted to all external corners, window reveals, and termination points.
Completion & Scaffold Strike
All sealant joints around windows and penetrations are completed. The finished render is inspected for consistency and quality. Scaffold is dismantled, the site is cleaned, and all materials are removed.
The Advantage
Why Clients Choose Us
25+ Year Weather Protection
K-render systems provide a minimum 25-year performance life, protecting your property from rain penetration, frost damage, and UV degradation.
No Repainting Required
Through-coloured renders (K-render, monocouche) maintain their colour without painting. The self-cleaning properties of silicone render keep facades looking fresh.
Improved Thermal Performance
External insulation and rendering can reduce heat loss through walls by up to 80%, cutting energy bills and improving indoor comfort year-round.
Increased Property Value
A freshly rendered exterior dramatically improves kerb appeal and can add 5–10% to property value, particularly when combined with EWI.
Breathable Systems
Our recommended systems allow moisture vapour to escape from the wall structure, preventing trapped dampness and ensuring the building fabric remains healthy.
Manufacturer-Backed Warranties
K-render and EWI systems installed to manufacturer specifications come with product warranties in addition to our workmanship guarantee.
