Service Overview
Complete Plastering for Every Surface
Our plastering services cover all internal wall and ceiling finishes — from standard skim coating over existing plasterboard, to full strip-and-replaster on solid walls, dry lining with insulation, and specialist lime plastering for period and listed properties. We also provide external rendering services including traditional sand and cement and modern K-render systems.
Plastering is required whenever walls or ceilings are being renovated, repaired, or newly constructed. After any electrical rewiring, plumbing first fix, or stud wall construction, plastering is the critical next step that creates the smooth, flat surface needed for painting, wallpapering, or tiling.
The quality of plastering directly determines the final appearance of every room. Even the best paint cannot disguise an uneven or rippled plaster surface — imperfections become increasingly visible as light catches them at different angles. Professional plastering is a skilled trade that requires years of practice to execute consistently.

Why It Matters
The Consequences of Poor Plastering
Bad plastering is one of the most visible trade defects in any property. Rippled surfaces, trowel marks, uneven thicknesses, and cracked finishes are impossible to hide beneath paint. Once plaster is applied, correction requires either a complete re-skim (additional time and cost) or, in severe cases, full removal and replastering from scratch.
Damp-related plaster failures are equally common. Plaster applied over a damp wall without addressing the source of moisture will eventually blow — detaching from the substrate, crumbling, and creating conditions for mould growth. Before any replastering work, we identify and resolve the underlying cause of dampness.
Timing is another critical factor that inexperienced plasterers often get wrong. Plaster that is overworked during the setting process develops surface cracks. Plaster that is finished too early remains soft and porous. Each coat must be applied at precisely the right stage of the previous coat's drying process — and this can only be judged through experience.
In-Depth Detail
Our Plastering Expertise in Detail
Skim Coat Plastering
The most common plastering service — a 2–3mm finish coat of multi-finish plaster applied over existing plasterboard, bonding coat, or sound existing plaster. We achieve glass-smooth surfaces suitable for painting or wallpapering. Typical coverage is 1–3 rooms per day depending on size and complexity.
Full Replastering (Solid Walls)
For walls where the existing plaster has failed, blown, or been removed, we apply a complete plastering system: scratch coat, floating coat, and finish coat. On brick or block substrates, we use bonding plaster or sand and cement backing coats to build up thickness before applying the final skim. This is common in renovation projects and period properties.
Dry Lining & Insulated Plasterboard
Dry lining involves fixing plasterboard to walls using dot-and-dab adhesive or timber/metal battens, then skim finishing the boards. This method is faster than wet plastering and allows thermal insulation boards to be incorporated behind the plasterboard, improving energy efficiency. We use Kingspan, Celotex, and similar insulation products.
Lime Plastering for Period Properties
Period properties with solid brick or stone walls require breathable lime plaster rather than modern gypsum products. Lime plaster allows moisture to pass through the wall naturally, preventing the trapping of dampness that causes structural damage. We mix and apply both lime putty and hydraulic lime plasters to conservation standards.
Ceiling Plastering & Artex Removal
We plaster ceilings using both traditional application and plasterboard overlay methods. For properties with textured Artex ceilings, we either skim over (where the surface is sound) or remove and replasterboard before skimming. Where Artex may contain asbestos (pre-2000 properties), we arrange testing before any disturbance.
External Rendering
We provide external render systems including traditional sand and cement render, through-coloured monocouche render, and K-render (silicone) systems. External rendering improves weather protection, thermal performance, and kerb appeal. Each system has different aesthetic, durability, and cost characteristics that we'll help you evaluate.
Our Proven Process
How We Deliver Results
Assessment & Preparation
We inspect the surfaces to be plastered, identify any underlying issues (damp, loose plaster, inadequate substrate), and determine the correct plastering system and materials for the situation.
Surface Preparation
Loose plaster is removed, surfaces are cleaned and treated with bonding agents where needed. Beading is fitted to external corners and window reveals. All adjacent surfaces are protected with sheeting.
Backing Coat Application
Where required, bonding coat, sand and cement scratch coat, or browning plaster is applied to build up thickness and create a flat, level base. This coat is scored to provide a key for the finish coat.
Finish Coat & Polish
The final skim coat is applied in two passes, trowelled to a smooth finish, and polished to create a surface ready for decoration. Drying times vary between 2–7 days depending on conditions.
Inspection & Clean-Up
The finished work is inspected for flatness, smoothness, and consistency. All protective sheeting is removed, debris cleared, and the space left clean and ready for decoration.
The Advantage
Why Clients Choose Us
Glass-Smooth Finishes
Our plasterers consistently achieve flat, smooth surfaces that enhance the final decorated appearance of every room.
Efficient Room Turnaround
Most rooms are skim-coated in a single day. Full replastering typically takes 2–3 days per room depending on the condition of the substrate.
Damp Issues Addressed First
We identify and resolve sources of dampness before plastering, preventing premature failure and ensuring a lasting result.
Period Property Experience
We understand the specific requirements of older buildings, using lime plasters and breathable systems that protect the building fabric.
Clean Working Methods
Full dust sheeting, floor protection, and thorough clean-up. Plastering is inherently messy — we contain it completely.
12-Month Workmanship Guarantee
All plastering work is guaranteed for 12 months. Hairline cracks from normal building settlement are touched up at no charge.
